Social Media causes hazardous impact on Youth: DIG Singh
Khadur Sahib: A national conference was organized today by Sri Guru Angad Dev College Khadur Sahib being run by Baba Sewa Singh Kar Sewa Wale, on ‘emerging trends in computer and information technology’ with the sponsorship of University Grants Commission (UGC).
In the conference, the speakers from various universities expressed worries over misuse of social media amongst young generation.
Chief guest Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, DIG (border range) said, “Social networking websites and mobile phone applications are causing hazardous effects on youth and they are being badly addicted of it. Today’s young generation who are yet to build their career, are destroying their future by misusing the internet.”
Talking about cyber crime, he made the students aware of the IT Act adding if ethics are not followed in the cyber world, the technology prove dangerous for human race.
“The social media can benefit the human being if he uses it in positive direction. Anybody can promote his business and earn income through the latest medium of communication”, said Dr. Harsh Verma, professor of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jalandhar, while delivering keynote address.
Dr. D.P. Vidyarthi, professor from Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU) Delhi, talked about emerging trends in IT saying that it has brought revolution in the world and provided opportunities to the youth to rise.
Dr. Syamala Devi (Prof Punjab University Chandigarh), Dr. Dharmveer Sharma (Prof. Punjabi University Patiala), Dr. Vishal Verma (Prof. Kurukshetra University), Dr. Hardeep Singh and Dr. Gurwinder Singh, (Professors Guru Nanak Dev University) were also among those who expressed their views on the subject during the different sessions of the event.
College Principal Dr. Surinder Bangar said that to increase research interest of students in the field of computer technology , the high profile conference had been organized with the kind help of the UGC.
Prof. Neelam Kumari, Prof. Sapna Kumari, Prof. Harmandeep Singh Gill, Prof. Amita, Prof. Arjinder Kaur, Prof. Ruchika, Prof. Navdeep Kaur, Prof. Gulgaon Singh, Prof. Gurmeet Singh, Prof. Manpreet Kaur, Prof. Rohit Sharma and Prof Gagandeep Kaur presented their research papers on various aspects of the subject.
Baba Balwinder Singh and governing council secretary Avtar Singh Bajwa presented momentous to all the guests and dignitaries who attended the conference.
